History of Valentino

Founded in the 1960s by Valentino Garavani, the Valentino fashion house began on Via Condotti in Italy. In 1962 Valentino went international with its first show in the Italian fashion capital of Pitti Palace. His designs were seen as a revelation in fashion and soon orders from around the world poured in. Valentino began designing for international fashionistas and New York socialites such as Babe Paley and Jayne Wrightman. Two years later, in Rome, he debuted his all-white collection which debuted the famous "V" logo.

By the mid 1960s, Valentino was considered the master of Italian couture, designing for the likes of Jacqueline Kennedy Onasis, Elizabeth Taylor and Princess Margaret. In 1967 he was awarded the Neiman Marcus Award. The 1970s saw Valentino spending most of his time in New York designing for socialites and artists, such as Andy Warhol. In the 1990s, Valentino sold his company for $300 million to an Italian conglomerate. In 2007, Valentino announced his retirement, to the dismay of his numerous fans.

Valentino is known for its luxurious, glamorous designs with intricately detailed gowns and body conscious silhouettes, even perfecting his own shade known as Valentino red. More than thirty years after its debut, Valentino is still sought after by celebrities and royalty alike.
