Quicksilver started a women's line in 1990 with a surf-based ascetic, where they saw a gap in the female surfer clothing market. Initially a swimwear line, Roxy debuted a sportswear line in 1990 and was an instant success, with sales of $1 million. 1992 saw the addition of a denim and snow wear line. Soon, the Roxy brand introduced its most popular item, the women's board short. In 1994 Lisa Anderson, an ASP World Champion surfer became part of the Roxy team, where she played an integral role in the company's success. In 1995, the company added accessories, footwear and watches to the line as well as a line targeted at girls aged 7-16. A year later, Roxy was nominated for the "California Rising Star Award." 1999 saw the addition of jewelry, bags, travel accessories, skate gear, and a line of bedding.
By 2003, Roxy had expanded to include a full line of snowboards, a series of young adult fiction, and a toddler's line that debuted in the Spring of 2005. Roxy garnered praise from magazines such as Lucky, Teen Vogue and In Style and in 2003, an MTV show called "Surf Girls" debuted. The series was a hit and continued to popularize the Roxy line.
Roxy opened its first store in Hawaii in 1997 with another store added in 2000 in California. Roxy now has stores all over the world and is available in many department stores. From its inception in 1990 to present day, Roxy has made $400 million in sales, offering products for all aspects of an active girl's life.
