History of Roberto Cavalli
Born in Florence, Italy on November 15, 1940, Roberto Cavalli was raised by artists. He followed in his family's artistic footsteps by enrolling in the local Art Institute with a concentration in textile printing. While in school, Cavalli made a series of knit flower prints that garnered the interest of major Italian hosiery factories. In the 1970s, Cavalli invented a new means of printing leather and began creating patchworks of various materials. He debuted his new technique in Paris and began getting commissions from luxury designers Hermes and Pierre Cardin. In 1972, Cavalli opened his first boutique in Saint-Tropez, focusing on his line of printed denim, leathers, brocade, and prints.
In Milan, in 1994, Cavalli opened his first boutique in the French Caribbean and presented the first sand-blasted jeans. He soon added boutiques in Venice and Saint-Tropez. Cavalli has expanded his brand to include many lines such as the RC Menswear line along with his Angels and Devil's Children Collection, underwear collections, shoes, watches, beachwear and various accessories. In 2002, he opened a café-store in Florence followed by another café in Milan.
Roberto Cavalli's style focuses on details and print; he likes to play with opposite ideas in one design. He is known for his bold patterns combined with simple elegance. He creates his vibrant patterns by using the most advanced technologies in the industry and is inspired by nature, often using these inspirations in his animal and floral prints.
