About Orla Kiely
Orla Keily began in the 1990s with a philosophy of bringing color and patterns to the mostly black and white fashion scene of the time. After her finale spot on the catwalk at the Royal College of Art, Orla was commissioned by high-end store Harrods to produce a line of hats. This was followed by a collection of accessories and bags which led to an expansion to other key London stores. In 1997, Orla showed at London Fashion Week and secured her first international orders. Orla was made consultant to the Marks and Spencer design team, but resigned in 1997 to launch her own line for Debenhams.
In 1998, Orla showed for the first time as part of Paris Fashion week, and her customer base expanded to include Ireland, Hong Kong, Japan, and the US. 1999 saw a design studio opened in Battersea and the introduction of knitwear. In 2000, Orla began work on the Marks and Spencer Autograph range. During the early 2000s, Orla established a central warehouse and distribution center along with a formal distribution deal in Japan as well as the first Orla Kiely shops opening in London, Tokyo and Korea. In 2005, Orla debuted a line of wallpaper followed by menswear and home collections in 2006. In 2007, Orla was nominated for the Elle Deco Award and became a visiting professor of Textiles for RCA. More recently, Orla has launched a line of stationary and a home collection sold at Target stores.
Orla Kiely has received numerous awards including, The Gold Award for Exporter of the Year, Designer UK Fashion Exports Award, Irish Tattler Woman of the Year, and was nominated for Best Accessory Designer at the British Style Awards. Her designs focus on color, pattern, texture, and graphics with a uniquely recognizable design.
