Juicy Couture was created by Gela Nash-Taylor and Pamela Skaist-Levy in 1996. The philosophy of the brand was to create sexy, affordable apparel equal to that of higher end designers with a target audience of women 14-26 years old. The line includes athletic and casual clothing, with the velour tracksuit being their most popular item. With not much money to start their business, the duo sent their designs to numerous celebrities. Soon, Madonna was seen wearing the infamous velour tracksuit and the company began to skyrocket to success. With this success, Juicy Couture was able to expand their availability from a few locations to numerous exclusive boutiques and flagship stores. In 2006, Taylor and Levy introduced 'Couture Couture,' a line consisting of 20 pieces with higher than normal prices which is only carried in high end stores.
Today, in addition to their original women's clothing line, Juicy Couture has added men's clothing, cosmetics, jewelry and their very popular handbag line. As a result, Juicy Couture saw over $258 million in sales in 2008, despite the worldwide recession. In addition, the company released a plus-size line known as "extra Juicy" in 2008, which is now widely available.
Juicy Couture is known for its logos and symbols. Their signature juicy crest and the phrase "love G&P" are stitched on the inside tag of each item as well as the shopping bags used in their boutiques.
