Jimmy Choo began in 1996 when Vogue Accessories Editor, Tamara Mellon, approached Mr. Jimmy Choo, a London couture shoe maker, to start a ready-to-wear shoe company. The first boutique opened in London and boutiques in New York and Los Angeles soon followed. Soon, Jimmy Choo shoes began showing up on red carpets and the feet of Hollywood elite throughout the world, such as Hillary Swank, Halle Berry and Sarah Jessica Parker.
In 2001, the equity share of the company was purchased and Jimmy Choo began its first significant expansion with handbags.
