Bulgari Handbags...

History of Bulgari

Descended from an ancient Greek family of Silversmiths, the Bulgaris began as manufacturers of precious silver. In the late 19th century, the family founder, Sotirio, opened his first shop in Rome. In 1905 Sotirio's sons, Constantino and Giorgio, opened a second shop in Condotti, Italy, which remains the Bulgari flagship store. During the early 20th century, Constantino and Giorgio expanded the family business to include precious stones, jewels and watches. By the end of World War II, the Bulgaris began to move away from the strictly defined rules of the French goldsmith school and instead began to create its own style, inspired by Greek and Roman classicism, with an emphasis on the Renaissance era and Roman school of goldsmiths.

The Bulgari Company remained in Italy until the 1970s when the family opened its first store in New York, followed by stores in Paris, Monte Carlo, and Geneva. The famous BVLGARI watch, considered a fashion classic, was released in the 1980s. During this same time, Sotirio's grandsons became Chairman and Vice Chairman of the company and Bulgari Time Neuchatel was founded to produce all of the Bulgari watch lines.

The 1990s marked more expansion for Bulgari. During this era, the company entered the high end perfume business with the establishment of Bulgari Parfums in Switzerland. In 1997, Bulgari debuted a line of silk scarves and ties, demonstrating the original company designs and quality Italian artisan work. Bulgari launched its Leather Goods and Eyewear collection in 1998. By the turn of the century, Bulgari diversified their offerings to include hotels and resorts with the creation of Bulgari Hotels and Resorts in partnership with Mariott International. In 2004, Milan, Italy saw the first of the Bulgari hotels open with a second hotel added in October of 2006 in Bali. In 2007, an additional hotel was opened in Tokyo.

Bulgari has been the trendsetter for Italian style since 1884. Drawing inspiration from Greek and Roman art imbued with its unique touch, Bulgari remains a symbol of luxury, attention to detail and fine craftsmanship. Today, one can view and purchase examples of stylish and beautiful Bvlgari items by visiting their stores in Rome, Paris, London, New York, Tokyo and Dubai.
