Mark Badgley and James Mischka first met at Parsons School of Design and joined design forces in 1988 with $250,000 borrowed from their families and a vision of glamorous, old Hollywood style gowns. The line immediately garnered praise from such fashion publications as Vogue magazine which named them one of the "top ten American designers." Celebrities from both the big and small screen, such as Sharon Stone, Melissa Etheridge, and Oprah Winfrey are attracted to their modern, elegant style of eveningwear and accessories. As a result of the initial success of the line, Badgley Mischka received financial backing from larger parent companies like Escada and Iconic. In 1993, Badgley Mischka launched their bridal line along with a line of engagement rings and bridesmaid dresses. They even designed the dress worn by Kristen Davis' character, Charlotte York, on Sex and the City.
Available at Bloomingdales, Sakes Fifth Avenue, Bergdorf Goodman and two boutiques in West Hollywood and Boston, Badgley Mischka's uses light fabric and less construction, yet their looks are known as "red-carpet-destined evening wear" The duo's style is simple, streamlined and elegant, though always with a modern twist. They also offer fragrance, handbags, shoes and eyewear through their platinum lines of eyewear, lingerie, fur, footwear and swimwear.
